How this calculator works

Future value = P × [((1 + i)n − 1) ÷ i] × (1 + i), where P is the monthly instalment, i is the monthly rate (annual return ÷ 12 ÷ 100) and n is the number of months. Each instalment is assumed to be invested at the start of the month.

Worked example

A monthly SIP of ₹10,000 for 10 years at an assumed 12% a year means 120 instalments and ₹12,00,000 invested. The formula gives an estimated corpus of about ₹23,23,391, of which roughly ₹11,23,391 is estimated growth.

Frequently asked questions

What is a SIP calculator?

A SIP calculator is a planning tool that projects the future value of regular monthly mutual fund investments, using the amount you invest, an assumed annual return and the investment period. It shows how compounding builds wealth, but the return you enter is an assumption, not a promise.

What return should I assume in a SIP calculator?

Equity mutual fund returns vary year to year, so use a conservative assumption, commonly 10% to 12% for long-term equity funds and lower for debt or hybrid funds. Past performance does not indicate future results, so test a few different rates before deciding.

Does this SIP calculator include expense ratio, exit load or tax?

No. It shows a gross projection based on the return you enter. Expense ratio is already reflected in a fund's reported returns, but exit load and capital gains tax will reduce what you actually receive, so treat the result as an estimate.

Should I use a step-up SIP instead?

If your income is likely to rise, a step-up SIP raises your instalment every year and can reach the same goal with a lower starting amount. Try the step-up SIP calculator on this site to compare both side by side.
